Does the message window need to be open for sending or receiving files?
You do not need to keep the message window open when sending or receiving files.
Once you set up file transfer you can close the message window.
If the friend you sent the file to has you on their auto-accept list the file will be transfered without their opening the message window.
If not, they need to accept the transfer and then they can close the window.
