You can use the search feature in the Contact List window to search for ICQ users or to search the web in addition to searching for friends in your contact list.
Follow these steps to do this:

In the search textbox type the name of the user you are searching for.
You can type just a few letters and ICQ automatically searches for names that fit the letters you typed.

From the list that opens select Search ICQ for [user].

In the Add Contacts window you can click the Advanced Search link to search for users with a specific profile.

When you find the user you want you can click Add User to add the user to your contact list or Send Message to send a message to that user.
