In general, details you provide on your ICQ profile are published on the ICQ People Search directory and may be searched and viewed by other users.
However, you may set one of 3 different
privacy levels that determine how much of your information will be shared with others.
-
Low privacy level: All of the details on your profile (ICQ number, email, phones, names, age, country, etc.) can be viewed and searched by everyone.
-
Medium privacy level (this is the default on ICQ): Your phone numbers and Email address can be viewed and searched only by your contacts. Any other details you enter (name, age, country, etc) can be viewed and searched by everyone.
-
High privacy level: Only your full name, nickname & ICQ number can be searched and viewed by everyone. All other personal information you enter (email, phones, age, gender, country, interests, etc.) can be viewed or searched only by your contacts.
For example:
- If someone who is not your contact searches for your nickname, they will find your account, but they will only see your first & last name, nickname and ICQ number.
- If someone who is not your contact searches for your email, they will not find your account at all.
To change your privacy level, go to Main menu --> Options --> Privacy --> My Privacy Profile, and select one of the 3 levels.
