Types of ICQ 4 Connection Problems
There are several different kinds of connection issues you may experience while using ICQ Lite. For more information about possible connection problems, click here.
Following is a list of the ICQ flowers and the types of issues they can represent:
Yellow ICQ Flower: If you have a yellow ICQ flower in your system tray,
this can indicate a few different problems:
- ICQ has detected an Internet connection, and is attempting to connect to the ICQ servers.
ICQ will continue to try to connect until it succeeds.
- You have tried to login too many times. ICQ will connect to the network automatically
once an interval of time has passed.
- There is a temporary problem with the ICQ server. ICQ will continue to try to connect.
When it succeeds, your ICQ client will launch automatically.
Gray ICQ Flower:
This type of flower indicates that ICQ is in Standby mode.
Once ICQ detects an Internet connection, it will connect to the ICQ server and launch automatically.
Red ICQ Flower:
This type of flower occurs only when you manually choose to disconnect from the ICQ servers.
Green ICQ Flower:
This type of flower indicates that you are connected to the ICQ servers and online.
Connections Settings
If you are behind a firewall and are having difficulty connecting, or would like to check your Connections settings, the following Connections preferences are available when you press the Connections Settings button:

- The ICQ Server pane enables you to change the configurations of your ICQ server host and port.
- The Proxy Settings pane has options that allow you to set if you are behind a firewall, change your Proxy server settings if you are behind a Firewall.
You may define more than one Proxy.
- The Keep Connection Alive checkbox gives you the option to keep your connection alive. This is useful for firewall's that drop inactive connections.
