ICQ version 99b comes with a new and exciting feature, the ICQ ActiveList. Now you can create or join ICQ communities based on a common interest and easily access them from your ICQ program. In addition to your original Contact List, you may open your chosen or personally created Lists and communicate with your friends or associates. Once you join an ActiveList you get cool window features and a whole lot of possibilities. You can broadcast and recieve events to all the List's members, post and view news, view information and configure your preferences. You can also become an ActiveList owner, which gives you total control over the List. You can delegate authority to any member of your List. In order to run your own ActiveList you need to
download the ActiveList server to your computer Figure 1: Connecting to the ActiveLists:
Now you can find an ActiveList to subscribe to.
After you have found a list, and added it, the bottom part of your ICQ should look like this:
Congratulations! You logged into the ActiveList, and as stated in the previous page, you chose to view the ActiveList in place of your Contact List: ![]() Figure 4: The ICQ window: once the
ActiveList button is selected, you view the ActiveLists rather than the
regular Contact List. Two lists are currently online, and to one of them
I am actually connected (Green Ball). The names above are members of my
ActiveLists, not members of the Contact List.
