Mastering ICQ Get "Mastering ICQ" & get to know the

 Preferences

The Owner Preferences feature enables you to customize your Preferences in the ICQ program. You do not need to configure these preferences in order for most features to work. However, as you get to know ICQ, you will find that customizing ICQ features enhances your ease and enjoyment of the program.

Click the ICQ button and select Preferences.


Preferences may be configured for the following:
  • The Contact List option enables you to customize the appearance and settings of your Contact List.
  • The Miscellaneous option enables you to pre-determine general settings.
  • The Status Mode option enables you to set general Availability-Status configurations.
  • The Telephony/Data/Games option enables you to configure settings for certain external applications.
  • The Connections option enables you to specify the ICQ server to which you are connected.
  • The Events option enables you to specify parameters for incoming file transfers, ICQ chats, URLs, and sound configurations.
  • The Shortcut Bar option allows you to customize your shortcut bar enabling you to access ICQ features and other applications from your ICQ window.
  • The Security & Privacy option enables you to configure your security and privacy settings.
  • The Greeting Card enables you to send and receive Greetings for all occasions.
  • The Voice Message enables you to send online voice and sound messages to your contacts.
  • The Phone Book enables you to configure who may view the phone numbers you entered in your user details.
  • The Email Preferences option enables you to configure ICQ to check your Email client and notify you of new incoming mail.
  • The Picturetab allows you to insert a picture in your user details, to be displayed to your ICQ friends.
  • The ICQ Active List enables you to invite your contacts to join an ICQ ActiveList(s) in which you participate.
  • The ICQ Mail Import This option allows you to have ICQ search for an e-mail address in the address book (or books) of the e-mail program that’s installed on your computer and compare it with the ICQ database (This feature works only with Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Navigator).
  • The ICQ Offline Reminder allows you to get a notification of users who have not logged on to ICQ for a set number of entries. You then have the option to send them a reminder to log on to ICQ.
  • The ICQphone Preferences tab enables you to customize your ICQphone settings.
  • The ICQ Homepage Preferences tab enables you to customize your homepage settings.
  • The SMS Messages Configure your preferences for sending and receiving SMS Messages.
  • The IrCQ-NetPreferences tab enables you to configure the settings for inviting your friends to your or to other's IrCQ-Net (ICQ IRC Service) chat room from your ICQ window.
