About this tour |
 |
This tour was created for ICQ users who have exhausted the Simple Mode options and are
interested in becoming familiar with the many other features available in Advanced Mode. If you are
a new ICQ user, we suggest you take the guided tour of ICQ and
familiarize yourself with the basic features of ICQ. This tour is accompanied by screen shots taken
from the ICQ client. As a result, some of the pages may load slower than others.
Switching to Advanced Features Mode
Now that you know how to use ICQ in Simple Mode, you are now ready to become familiar with all the other features of the ICQ program.
Here are some ways you can switch to Advanced Features Mode:
Click on the To Advanced Mode button, or you can click the ICQ Menu button and
select Advanced Features. There are two other ways to change mode: Clicking on a user name
to open the Event menu and select Advanced Features,
or click to open the System Menu and select Advanced Features.
Once you select the mode, the following dialog will appear:
Click on Switch to Advanced Mode button.
In Advanced Mode the ICQ Window changes its appearance a little:
Some new buttons and more features are added, as you can see.
The first change you will note apart from the new buttons added is to the Connection Status Menu. As you can see, you now have the following options:
- Random Chat - See the ICQ Random Chat Tutorial
- Available/Connect - Also known as Online.
- Free For Chat - See the complete ICQ Chat Tour
- Away - Change your status to Away. You may select between 8 different preset Away messages.
- N/A (Extended Away) - Extended Away. After an extended period of being away, ICQ will automatically set to N/A. You may also select between up to 8 preset messages for this status.

|
- Occupied (Urgent Msgs) - If you don't want to be distracted for any reason, use this status. Users will still be able to send you urgent messages, or leave a message on your Contact List (the message icon will not blink).
- DND (Do Not Disturb) - Users will be able to send messages to your Contact List only.
- Privacy (Invisible) - When you're in need of privacy, this is the best solution. You will be online but your friends will not know that.
- Offline/Disconnect - Disconnect from the ICQ servers.
