Most Common Registration Issues
In order to register, you must be able to establish a connection between your computer
and our server. The five most frequent reasons for not being able to register are:
- No open communication link. You currently do not have an open communication link between your computer and our server.
- Our system is under maintenance. You are connecting on one of those rare occasions that our database or servers are under
maintenance.
- You are behind a firewall. You are in an organization and work behind a
firewall that should be configured to work with ICQ.
If you still cannot register, make sure you are connected to the Internet by checking the Network Status page at http://web.icq.com/status.html. Refresh the page. By going to this address and refreshing the page, you will know if you have an open link to the Internet,
and also whether our servers are currently under maintenance. Check this page periodically to find out if the servers are operational again, and try to register again.
Starting Registration
When ICQ Lite is installed successfully, you can start the registration
process by running ICQ Lite:
- Click the Start Button in the Task Bar.
- Choose Programs.
- Select ICQ Lite. The ICQ Lite client will launch. From the Login screen,
click the Get an ICQ Number button and follow the onscreen instructions to register your ICQ number.
