Messages
To change settings for sending, receiving, and displaying messages in ICQ, go to "Menu" — "Settings" and select the "Messages" tab.




Conversation
- Load recent messages into the conversation window — if you want the most recent messages from previous conversations to be loaded into the conversation window when you start a conversation with someone, check this option and indicate how many recent messages you want to see;
- Combine messages sent in succession — check this option if you want messages sent in succession to be combined into a single, large message;
- Minimize the window by pressing Escape — if you uncheck this option, pressing Escape will close the conversation window; if you check it, the conversation window will minimized and all previously opened tabs will be preserved.
History
- Save messages in your history — if you enable this option, all of your conversations will be saved and you'll always be able to find what you're looking for in old conversations;
- Show most recent messages on top — if this option is set, messages in your history will be shown in reverse chronological order – from the newest to the oldest.
Incoming messages
- Automatically open incoming messages — if you enable this option, all new messages will be opened automatically.
Sending messages
- Send — You can select key combinations to send messages.
Emoticons

Automatically convert text emoticons to icons — by checking this option, all emoticons that you type in manually will be changed to icons, e.g. if you type :) in your message , the recipient will see

Toons
- Show incoming Toons — enable this option and any toons sent to you will be played automatically. All you have to do is open the conversation window.
- Show outgoing Toons — if you set this option, then when you send a toon to someone, it will play for you as well.
