Add a contact for sending SMS
If your conversation partner doesn't have an ICQ account, but you want to send him or her an SMS
If your friend doesn't have an ICQ account, you can still add him or her to your contact list and use ICQ 8 to exchange SMS messages. To create a contact like that, click "Add contact" and go to "Add a contact for calls and SMS" in the window that appears.

Enter the "User name" and "Primary phone number". If you want, you can also add other phone numbers for contacting this person.

After you've filled in the information, click "Add" — now the contact has been added to your contact list. You can send him or her a SMS messages and make calls.

In the future if the user gets an ICQ account, you can add his or her UIN to the already existing contact and exchange instant messages with him or her. To do this, right-click on the contact and select "Add UIN to communicate".
If somebody is already in your contact list, but hasn't specified a phone number
The reverse situation can happen as well, where somebody is already in your ICQ contact list, but he or she has not filled out the "Phone" field. In this case, you can store a phone number for the person to be able to send him or her an SMS message.
To add a phone number to an existing contact, right-click on the contact and select "Info".

In the "Editable phone numbers" section, enter a primary phone number that will be used by default and, if desired, indicate additional phone numbers. After you've entered the phone numbers, click "Save".
