Set your ICQ availability!
With ICQ Lite, you can decide how long it takes other users to see you are away from your computer. It's also simple to choose if people can see whether you are online or offline from the Web.

In this section we help you:

Configure How Long It Takes For You To Be "Away"

Status indicators enable your contacts to see whether or not you're available. These can be set by clicking the ICQ flower in the lower right corner of the ICQ Lite window. In the default position, "Away" will appear after 10 minutes of not using your computer, and "Not Available" will appear after 20 minutes.

To alter the length of time before a status mode appears:

  1. Click -> Preferences & Security -> Status Mode (under Preferences)

  2. Alter the length of time before the Away and N/A (Extended Away) indicators appear by using the up and down arrow buttons.
  3. To hide the length of time you've been away from your computer, uncheck the box Allow users to see how long I've been idle.
  4. Click OK to save changes and close the window, Apply to save changes and keep the window open, or Cancel to discard your changes and close the window.

Notes:
  • If you appear in the Contact Lists of users who added you before you began requiring authorization and you would rather not receive messages from them, simply add these contacts to your Ignore List.
  • A user can send you a message even if you don't appear on their Contact List via the "send message" option in the directory search. However, they will not know whether you are online or offline unless you activated the Web Aware feature (see below).

Enable/Disable Web Aware Availability Feature

By activating the Web Aware option, other Internet users are able to see your online/offline status from features such as your ICQ Unified Messaging Center. You enable or disable the Web Aware option during the ICQ registration process. However, if you would like to activate or deactivate the Web Aware feature after registration:

  1. Click -> Preferences & Security -> General (under Security)

  2. In the Web Aware pane, check the Allow others to view my online/offline status from the Web box.
  3. Click Apply to save your changes and leave the window open, OK to save changes and close the window, or Cancel to exit without saving changes.

Note: Even if you apply the Invisible (Privacy) mode, when the Web Aware setting is activated and you are online, your online status will be displayed to all users with Web Aware features.

Prevent Specific Users from Seeing Your Online Status

Once you add a user to your Invisible list, you will always appear offline from his/her ICQ window.
Note: Even if you apply the Invisible (Privacy) mode, when the Web Aware setting is activated and you are online, your online status will be displayed to all users with Web Aware features.

Click
-> Preferences & Security -> Invisible List (under Security)

You can add a user to your Invisible list in two ways:
  • Drag the user directly from your Contact List into the Invisible list window. A dialog box will appear to confirm the addition.
  • Click the Add to Invisible List button. A search dialog will appear that will allow you to search for the user you want to be Invisible to by ICQ number, email address, or name.

Allow Specific Users to View Your Online Status

Once you add a user to your Visible list, he/she will always be able to see when you are Online, even when you have selected the Invisible online mode.
To add a user to your Visible list: Click -> Preferences & Security -> Visible List (under Security)

You can add a user to your Visible list in two ways:
  • Drag the user directly from your Contact List into the Invisible list window. A dialog box will appear to confirm the addition.
  • Click the Add to Visible List button. A search dialog will appear that will allow you to search for the user you want to be Invisible to by ICQ number, email address, or name.
