Let ICQ Lite work the best way for you!
ICQ Lite is a very flexible tool that can be easily personalized to suit your preferences. Whether you prefer ICQ to open automatically when your computer starts, you want incoming messages to blink on your Contact List, or you'd like to send messages in Chinese - it can all be done!

In this section we help you: Launch ICQ Lite When You Start Your Computer

Save yourself a few clicks and let ICQ launch itself automatically when you start up your computer:
  1. Click -> Preferences & Security. Under Preferences, click Contact List.

  2. Select the Launch ICQ Lite on startup checkbox.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

Access Menus With A Left/Right Mouse Click

If you prefer to use the left mouse button, ICQ hasn't forgotten you! While the ICQ Lite default setting for opening menus is a right mouse click, you can very easily change this to a left mouse click.
  1. Click -> Preferences & Security. Under Preferences, click Contact List
  2. Check the Access menus by left button box.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

As you open and close programs, ICQ Lite will 'stay on top' - it will never be hidden when you open a new program. However, if you would like new windows or programs to cover ICQ Lite:
  1. Click -> Preferences & Security. Under Preferences, click Contact List.
  2. Uncheck the ICQ Window when open, always showing on your desktop box.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or click Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

Hide/Reveal User Tool Tips

If you mouse over a user name or a button, ICQ Lite provides you with explanatory/additional information. If you would prefer not to see this text:
  1. Click -> Preferences & Security. Under Preferences, click Contact List.
  2. Uncheck the Show user ToolTip box.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or click Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

If you like to use your keyboard rather than your mouse, ICQ Lite shortcuts can save you time. Here's the list of current keyboard shortcuts:
  • Ctrl + Shift + A: Minimize/maximize ICQ Lite
  • Ctrl + Shift + I: Accept an incoming message

  2. Uncheck the Enable Keyboard Shortcuts box.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or click Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

Message Window Automatically Closes When You Send a Message

In ICQ's default mode, once you send a message, the message window remains open to wait for your friend's reply. If you prefer that the message window close automatically after you send a message (any reply would simply reopen the window) here's how you do it:

  1. Click -> Preferences & Security -> Contact List
  2. Check the Close the message window upon sending a message box.
  3. Click OK to save your settings and close the window, Apply to change your settings and continue, or click Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving changes.

  • Select the language you want to use from the Multilingual Support drop down box.
