You define who finds you on ICQ!
When you register with ICQ, you have the option of including personal information in your User Details.
ICQ Lite allows you to update your profile whenever you wish!
In this section we help you:
Update Your User Details
The more user details you provide, the easier it will be for old friends to find you, and the more new friends will be able to find out about you!
- Click
 -> View/Change My Details.
- Select the type of information to be updated from the list in the left window.
- Update the text in the information window on the right.
- Click Apply to save changes, OK to save changes and close the window, or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Notes:
- Providing information about yourself to the ICQ service is completely up to you - if you prefer not to, don't.
- Contacts who have already added you to their Contact List will not see your latest changes until they update your user information.
- If you want to update your personal details after you've made changes from a separate location or through the Web site, click the Get details from the ICQ directory button.
Update Phone or SMS Details & Be Found Easily
By adding SMS or phone details, you can enable selected users to contact you via those platforms.
Note: Phone numbers you enter using ICQ Lite will automatically
be published to the ICQ directory.
To update:
- Click ->
View/Change My Details, and select Phone Book.
- To add a new number, select the relevant Click to add number link.
- To delete or edit any number, use the Edit and Delete buttons on the right.
- To define a cellular number as an SMS number, add a Private Cellular number and check the SMS Service Available for this number
Displays SMS icon on Contact List checkbox.
- Click Apply to save changes, OK to save changes and close the window, or Cancel to exit the window without saving changes.
Notes:
- If it's necessary to dial an initial zero when dialing in the recipient's country, enter the zero under Network # "Area Code",
click on the Area Code Entry button, and uncheck the
Remove leading zeros from area code box.
- Different countries have different conventions regarding the initial zero, so if you send an SMS message and receive an error
message, try engaging the Network # "Area Code" option detailed above.
Restrict Access to Your Email Address
If you prefer to restrict access to your email address, change these settings within the View/Change My Details window:
- Click -> View/Change My Details -> ICQ Details/Email
- To enter a new email address, click Add Email.
Note: To edit an existing email address, highlight the email address, and click Edit Email.
- In the Email Addresses dialog box, select the Don't publish my email address
on ICQ directories. Save for password retrieval purposes checkbox.
- Click OK to save your changes and close the window, Apply to save your changes and keep the window open, or Cancel to discard your changes and close the window.
Update Your Friends' Details
To update one of your Contact List friend's details:
- Click the user's name under in your ICQ Contact List. In the User menu, click User's Details. The User Details window will display.
- To obtain the most recent update of a user's information, click Get Details from the ICQ Directory. This will automatically get the latest information about
the user from the ICQ server.
