Control Who You Receive Messages From & Who to Ignore
ICQ enables you to ignore specific types of messages & alerts, or to add specific users to an Ignore list that will block any communication these users send you.

In this section we help you: Ignore Specific Events

  1. Click -> Security & Privacy Permissions -> Communications (under Permissions).

  2. Beside the message type, select whether to accept messages from No one, Only users on my Contact List or Everyone.
  3. To remove the prompt to approve events, check Auto Accept (this will work only for Only users on my Contact List or Everyone).
  4. Click Apply to save, or Cancel to exit without saving your changes.
Tips:
  • To ignore requests to participate in events (e.g. IrCQ-Net Chat) that you don't have the necessary plug in for, check No one alongside Unsupported Event Notification.
  • The events list has a vertical scroll bar and contains all the event types you may receive.
  • To ignore World Wide Pager Messages or EmailExpress Messages see the Ignore By User section below.
Override Ignore Specific Messages for Individual Contacts

To override Communications preferences and have the option to refuse/accept specific events from individual contacts:
  1. Click the contact's name. Choose User UniqueSettings ->.

  2. Select the event for which you want to override settings from the left pane (e.g., Greeting Card).
  3. Check the "When this user send me selected messages type, always:" box in the Plugin pane.
  4. Choose whether to Show me the message for me to accept, Auto Accept or Auto Decline.
  5. Click Apply to save, or Cancel to exit without saving your changes.

Ignore By User

To ignore specific users on your contact list, simply drag a contact's name to your Ignore List (see Ignore List for more information).
To accept only messages/events from contacts on your Contact List:
  1. Click -> Security & Privacy Permissions -> Spam Control (under Permissions).

  2. Check Accept Messages only from users on my Contact List.
  3. To ignore events that were sent to more than one recipient using the Multi-Recipient function, check Do not accept Multi Recipient Messages. Select from the drop-down menu whether to apply this to Users not on my contact list or All Users.
Note: From this window, you can also opt to reject all World Wide Pager and EmailExpress Messages.
  4. Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Tips:
If you received an event from a contact appearing in the Not in List group (below your Contact List users) before you checked Accept Messages only from users on my Contact List, simply right-click the contact's name and select Add to Ignore List.
