You Define Who Finds You on ICQ
When you register with ICQ, you can include personal information in your User Details. Whenever you want, you can update your profile as well as specifying who can see what!
In this section we help you:
Update Your User Details
The more user details you provide the easier it will be for old friends to find you and the more there'll be for new friends to find out about you!
- Click
-> View/Change My Details.
- Select the type of information to be updated from the list in the left window.
- Update in the information window on the right.
- Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Notes:
Providing information about yourself on the ICQ service is completely up to you - if you prefer not to…don't.
Your phone numbers and picture will only appear in the ICQ Directory if you
checked 'Publish to All' in Main -> Security & Privacy Permissions -> View/Change My Details -> Phone Book.
Contacts who have already added you to their Contact List will not see the latest changes until they update your user information.
Tips:
If you want to update your own details after you've made any changes made from a separate location or through the web site click Get details from the ICQ directory.
Update Phone, SMS or Pager Details & Be Found Easier
By adding SMS, phone or pager details you can enable selected users to contact you via these platforms. Phone numbers will only appear in the ICQ Global Directory if you desire. To update:
- Click -> View/Change My Details select Phone Book.
- To add a new number select the relevant Click to add number link.
- To add a second number in any category, delete or edit any number, use the Add, Edit & Delete buttons on the right.
- To define a cellular number as an SMS number. Add a Private Cellular number and check the SMS Service Available for this number. Displays SMS icon on Contact List box.
- Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Notes:
If it's necessary to dial an initial zero when dialing in the recipient's country, enter the zero under Network # "Area Code", click on the Area Code Entry button and uncheck the Remove Network # "Area Code" initial zeroes box.
Different countries have different conventions regarding the initial zero, so if you send an SMS message and receive an error message, try engaging the Network # "Area Code" option detailed above.
Tips:
If you want any of your numbers to appear on the ICQ Directories, check the Publish to All box alongside the number.
Restrict Access to Phone Numbers/Your Picture
If you prefer to restrict User Information access to your phone number/picture just change your Security & Privacy settings:
- Click -> Security & Privacy Permissions under Permissions -> Contact Info/Files
- Alongside Phone Numbers and Picture Authorization decide whether No one, Everyone (you'll be given the choice of accepting or decline individual requests) or Only users on my Contact List can view these details.
- Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Tips:
The Auto Accept option sets ICQ to automatically accept incoming requests.
Your phone numbers and picture will only appear in the ICQ Directory if you checked 'publish to all' in main -> security & privacy -> view change my details -> phone book
Override Restricted Access for Specific Users
To override the restricted access to your general preferences for a specific user -
- Click Contact Name under User Options -> Alert/Accept Modes
- Select the feature you want to override the general preferences for, from the left window.
- Check the Override General Prefs box.
- Choose whether to Show Response Dialog (a response dialog appears every time you receive a request to view the specified information) Auto Accept/ Auto Decline (automatically allow/decline the user's request to view the information).
- Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Update Other Users' Details
In order to update a user's details in your contact list:
- Click Users ICQ# under User Options -> User Details/Address Book
- To obtain the most recent update of a user's information, click Get Details from the ICQ Directory.
- Update information in the same way as you update your own, see Update Your User Details above.
